Current situation of the park, filmed in September 2006

plasticcoat presents the diploma thesis of Uta Katharina Böcker and Kai Magnus Bergmann.

the two prospective architects created a unique architectural position—a transformation process of a site by expanding and simplifying its landmark into a new novel structure that also respects the other notable objects of the ground.

they chose the former spreepark in berlin, an overgrown amusement park in the eastern center of germany's capital with a vibrant history: once it has been one of the few refugiums of the gdr to enjoy western pleasures, after the fall of the wall it has been run down by shady businessmen and incompetent paper-shufflers.

since early 2002 the doors of the park are closed and diverging interests foreclose any kind of progress. thus, it is time to develop something completely new that transcends anything before. this diploma project is an attempt to transform the current situation without distroying its untouched magic—it is an intervention of pop.

this diploma thesis is part of the diploma level classes of prof. francis soler at the ADIP department of the tu berlin. furthermore, it represents a vertical collaborative project between high level students and the diploma and doctoral candidates.
